Don’t miss the 3rd annual Georgia Mountain Big Green Eggfest to be held on May18th, 2013 at the beautiful Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee, Georgia.
An egg fest is a fun-filled weekend celebration, open to the public, where over 125 Big Green Egg cooks come from all over the country and Canada to showcase their cooking skills and talents by preparing all of their specialty recipes. “Taster” tickets may be purchased for $ 20.00 and this entitles you to stroll through the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, beginning at 9:00 AM, and sample all of this wonderful “egg”ed food all day long while talking to the cooks about their recipes and techniques. You’ll experience everything from exotic breakfast dishes, barbecued meat loaf, pulled pork, falling-off-the-bones ribs, spicy sausages, juicy beef brisket, crispy pizza, homemade artisan bread, to a variety of desserts including cobblers, rum soaked apple cake, grilled pineapple and just about any other food you can imagine. You’ll soon learn why this intriguing ceramic cooker, the Big Green Egg, is considered to be the most versatile and complete baker/smoker/grill on the market.
This is a good opportunity to become a Big Green Egg owner as all the eggs and accessories are greatly discounted for this one-day event. Pre-purchase is necessary and the new eggs are “slightly” used for a few hours on the day of the event by very experienced cooks/chefs.
If you’re arriving Friday, May 17th, we’re having a free “Meet and Greet” event at the Anderson Music Hall within the fairgrounds. This is a good opportunity to meet and mingle with many of the Big Green Egg cooks from around the country and meet new friends. There will be several eggs set up to cook on and everyone brings a covered dish to share or something to cook on the egg. This is a very popular and fun event and there will be a bluegrass band there, and, at the egg fest, to keep you entertained.
This local economy gets a big boost from the egg fest as well. Last year the host hotel, Ramada Lake Chatuge Lodge, and the campground at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds were booked solid all weekend. There are a number of other lodging opportunities in the area such as Holiday Inn Express, Brass town Valley Resort and The Ridges Resort as well as numerous cabins and B & B’s. The restaurants, filling stations, and local businesses in the area also benefit from this influx of visitors.
