--By on --

Dahlonega, Georgia, September 1, 2012– Thinking of running your first 5k race?  Love to walk for health?  Are you a seasoned runner looking for an inspirational and fun race with a beautiful course?  Or, are you looking for a great cause to support? ConnectAbility has the event for you!  September 15th in Dahlonega, there will be a 5k/10k race to benefit ConnectAbility through the historic town square and alongside Lake Zwerner. The event raises money for ConnectAbility, which provides special needs respite programs, parents support groups, and more to adults and children with special needs in the north Georgia region and is also the delegation for Special Olympics for Lumpkin and Dawson County.

In spirit with this organization, everyone will be a winner in this race, so EVERYONE will get a high quality engraved finishers’ medal!  In addition, there will be special awards for Age Bracket Winners and the Overall Winners will win handmade pottery ‘Winner’s Cups’ made special for this race by BRAD WALKER POTTERY.

Sound great?  There’s more!

•       Come meet the TEAM LONG BROTHERS- Cayden & Conner Long. They have been featured on ESPN and ABC News with Diane Sawyer. Six year old Cayden is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and nine year old Conner pushes Cayden in a specially designed stroller, pedals with Cayden in a trailer behind his bike and swims while pulling Cayden in a raft.  Team Long Brothers will be competing in the 5k race and sharing their story with the crowd. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet this incredible pair & their family! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAC50ILgIxY

•       At the finish/start line (in Hancock Park) you will meet a professional JOGGLER (someone who juggles while they jog, naturally), Dan Berg, who will be joggling the 5k and putting on brief shows for the crowd!

•       We will have a full, fun warm-up on the stage in Hancock Park, to some rocking music.

Can’t make it to this event but wish you could?  Register as a “ghost” runner!  You’ll still get a shirt and chance to support a great organization… all without the sweat…

IPAD RAFFLE- We are also raffling off an IPAD at the race.  Buy tickets for $1 each by emailing contact@garunner.org or buy on race day.  Proceeds all go to ConnectAbility Inc.
